Integrative counseling considers the whole person - mind, body and spirit. It is a process by which we gain insight into patterns of thinking and behavior that prevent us from living life wholeheartedly. For our outer world to change, the process must first begin from within. Getting to "know" ourselves is the gateway to self-awareness and self-esteem, which it at the root of how we experience life.
Examining the limiting beliefs and false assumptions we have internalized is an important part of this process. Beliefs are the software of our lives. They are so automatic that we don't even realize they are there. The way a person thinks plays a large role in how they feel, both emotionally and physically. When we examine the layers of fears, judgements, and opinions that we've been unconsciously collecting over the years, we open a door to health and inner freedom. When we raise our awareness and identify our formulas for living and relating, we can do something to change what isn't working and move beyond the constraints we have imposed on our own lives. We can then learn how to re-pattern old, self-defeating habits of thinking, feeling, acting and interacting.
When you see that your belief system is full of inaccuracies, you can then heal those old perceptions and emotions. You reach an understanding of who you are and what you want. You learn how to listen, respond and be at ease in your own mind and body. You make peace with your past and understand that while you cannot change past events, you can change the effect they have on you today. Your relationship with yourself and with others improves. You become more emotionally intelligent.
Once you begin this process, the possibilities for every aspect of your life multiply. Your life will change in ways in which you never imagined.
